Container Handling

When the Solas Regulation goes into force in July 2016, the weighing of containers will be required. BROSA has developed high-precision sensors for rough use on spreaders and head blocks. These have already been in use very successfully for many years by reputable manufacturers.

Environmental conditions:

The harbor has rules of its own: fast pace, large handling volumes and low failure rates. And all this in a wide range of climatic conditions. Despite these factors, it is necessary to obtain highly accurate results in load monitoring.

Our sensors are designed for harsh environments and temperature compensated from -40 ... + 80 °C. They have a very high long-term stability and interference immunity of 200 V / m. Sensors from BROSA correspond to DIN EN 60529 of protection class IP 67 or IP 69 on request.

Our sensors are available with performance level c (d) or SIL 1 (2). When used in higher-level systems according to DIN EN ISO 13849-1, we can also offer sensors with performance level e or SIL 3.

BROSA sensors are also ATEX and IECEx certified. We can offer all of our force sensors in an Ex-i version. Force measuring pins, tension load cells and angle sensors are also available in an Ex-d version. Thus, our sensors are ideally suited for use in areas subject to explosion hazards.

You have a choice of a range of different output signals such as current output (4 ... 20mA), CANopen, CANopen Safety, PROFINET (PROFIsafe). We also implement customized output signals.

BROSA sensors have been used in a variety of different harbor applications for decades. We manufacture sensors for measuring tensile and compressive forces of up to 10,000 kN.

Our patented three-point force sensor washers can be installed directly on the spreader-twist lock and therefore need almost no extra space. In addition, these are designed to be capable of sustained operation with more than 2 million load cycles.

Here is just a small selection of application examples in which our sensors are installed:

  • STS cranes
  • SOS systems
  • RTGs
  • Mobile harbor cranes
  • Straddle carriers
  • spreader twist locks
  • Lift AGVs
